Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) Secretary Phyllis Gilmore announced today, a new Wichita Regional Director. Bill Gale was recently selected to head the area. His first day on the job is today.
“Bill has strong roots in the Wichita community,” Secretary Gilmore said. “His familiarity with the region and its needs will help the Department better serve the families and children in southeast Kansas.”
Gale most recently was appointed Inspector General for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Prior to that July 2012 appointment, he served as the Sedgwick County Election Commissioner from 2003 to 2011. His employment history also includes many years of service to the City of Wichita. He was elected Wichita City Council Member from 1995 to 2003. Gale has also worked as an accountant, a paraeducator for USD #259 and a recreation leader for the YMCA’s Middle School and After School Program. Some of his community involvement activities include prior service as a YMCA Community Development Board Member. He has also served on the board of the Wichita/Sedgwick County Regional Prevention Center.
“I am committed to helping Kansas families,” Gale said. “I look forward to continuing the wonderful work of DCF in the Wichita Region; I am also excited about future opportunities to assist residents achieve self-sufficiency and build healthy families.”
One of the many responsibilities Gale will take on as the Wichita Regional Director is leading the move of the Wichita service center from the Finney State Office Building in Downtown Wichita.
“I fully intend to make this a smooth transition for clients and staff,” Gale said. “There is plenty of work to do ahead of the move that will happen later this year.” DCF is still considering location options. A new service center location has not yet been announced.
Gale is a Wichita State University graduate. He’s married to Charissa JarboeGale.
Michael Myers served as Interim Regional Director. He will now return to his duties serving as the DCF Kansas City Regional Director.
The Wichita Region covers 10 counties.
