Changes are being implemented which affect the
way Shared Leave Requests are reviewed and approved for all Cabinet
agencies and those other agencies participating in the program.
Beginning August 1, 2004, requests will be reviewed by the State's
Shared Leave Committee to ensure that the "employee or family
member is experiencing a serious, extreme or life-threatening
illness, injury, impairment, or physical or mental condition that
has caused, or is likely to cause, the employee to take leave
without pay or terminate employment." If the condition does
not meet this standard, the request will be denied.
The Committee will meet once a week to make determinations on
requests.
We may experience situations where conditions which once were
approved will no longer be approved. It is important for employees
to manage their sick and annual leave balances responsibly so
adequate balances are available should an situation occur which
does not qualify for shared leave.
For additional information on shared leave, please contact your
agency's human resource office.
