Kansas Fire Incident Reporting System |
The Kansas Fire Incident Reporting System (KFIRS) is the
state-wide system for collecting data on fires, fire departments, and
emergency response. After responding to an incident, Kansas fire departments
complete specific modules, depending on the type of incident. These modules
are submitted to the Kansas State Fire Marshal's Office which then submits
the incidents to the National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS).
The modules describe the type of incident, when and where it occurred,
what resources were used, losses incurred, and other information to help
identify the fire cause, hazmat emergencies, or medical incidents. |
All KFIRS reports are to be submitted electronically either by email attachments, floppy disk or CD. Paper reports are no longer accepted. We have software for free and training is provided by our office. The recommended computer requirements for the software are Windows XP or newer for operating system, 1GHz processor, 256 MB RAM, 3.5" floppy drive, and a CD burner. John Patchen is the contact person for the software and training at 785-296-0660. Reporting is required monthly. If you have no incidents then submit a "no activity" sheet stating there was no activity or send an email to that effect. This gives you credit for reporting. The reports should be in our office by the 20th of the month following the reporting period. If you are having problems that will preclude you from meeting these requirements, let us know what the problems are and if we can be of assistance. This will be the new reporting requirements for the statutes. Fire related deaths are to be reported to our office within 72 hours of the death. Please contact John Patchen at 785-296-0660. Vehicle inspection forms sent to our office need to reflect inspections completed on the vehicles for the previous year and not the upcoming year, example, for 2007 not 2008. We have been experiencing an increasing number of reports being rejected by the server. We have spam blocker equipment attached to the server and recently the rules have changed to where if any punctuation appears in the subject line it is rejecting the message as spam. Please do not put any punctuation in the subject line. Use only letters or numbers. New email address for KFIRS electronic reporting kfirs@ksfm.state.ks.us |
