Statistics

The Office of the State Fire Marshal collects a number of statistics across the state. Much of the data is collected from fire departments through the KFIRS/NFIRS system, although information is also collected from hospitals on fireworks and burn injuries, and from local jurisdictions regarding juvenile firesetting. Each Division within the State Fire Marshal's Office also collects data specific to their areas of jurisdiction. For this statistical data, either visit the pages for each division or contact the main office at (785) 296-3401. The statistics presented here are general stats collected from fire departments regarding the number of fires, loss of life, injuries, and loss of property. Statistics for 2006 are now finalized. For 2007 statistics, please contact the main office.
