HOUSE BILL No. 2380
An Act concerning apprenticeship programs;
relating to eligibility for training funds;
amending K.S.A. 1998 Supp. 74-5065 and repealing
the existing section.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of
Section 1. K.S.A. 1998 Supp.
74-5065 is hereby amended to read as
follows: 74-5065. As used in this act:
(a) "Kansas industrial training program" or
"KIT program" means a
program under which the secretary provides for training, customized
meet the specifications of a new or expanding industry, of new
or prospective employees, or both, of the industry.
(b) "Kansas industrial retraining
program" or "KIR program" means
a program under which the secretary provides for retraining,
to meet the specifications of a restructuring industry, of
employees of the
(c) "New or expanding industry" means an
industry which is locating
or is newly located in Kansas or an existing industry which is
Kansas and is expanding its work force.
(d) "Training" means training of
employees or preemployment train-
ing of prospective employees for jobs newly created by a new or

cated in Kansas and is restructuring its operations through
of existing technology, development and incorporation of new
diversification of production or development and implementation of

employees of a restructuring in-
dustry who are likely to be displaced because of obsolete or
job skills and knowledge.
(g) "Job training agency" means any
public or private educational or
job training institution and any other public or private entity
qualified to provide the training or retraining required under the
and KIR programs, including apprenticeship programs that are
through the Kansas apprenticeship council and recognized by the
States department of labor, bureau of apprenticeship
(h) "Secretary" means the secretary of

"corporate partnership," "lim-
ited liability company," "limited partnership," "swine production
and "trust" have the meanings ascribed pursuant to K.S.A. 17-5903,
Sec. 2. K.S.A. 1998 Supp. 74-5065 is hereby
