Emergency Management

General Information

Whether introduced into United States livestock by accident or intentionally, an outbreak of Foreign Animal Disease would impact the agricultural community as a whole in a manner that could result in economic losses of unprecedented proportions.

Kansas’ livestock industry is a major contributor to the economy of the State, the nation and the world. The estimated magnitude of the impact of a disaster of this nature dictates that preparedness to respond quickly to such an event is critical. Kansas Animal Health Department is very aware of this need, and has an emergency plan for response to Foreign Animal Disease. We are constantly working to improve upon that plan, through cooperative emergency planning with all Kansas Counties, and other Kansas agencies and private entities which would be involved in our response. We are also working with Kansas Emergency Management and Federal Agencies which will provide support and oversight in a FAD event.
