Livestock

General Information

The primary purpose of this program is to eradicate disease in livestock throughout the state. Aspects of this program include animal identification, quarantine authority, market regulation and control of all infectious and contagious disease in livestock, exotic or pet animals.

The definition of livestock includes “cattle, swine, sheep, goats, horse, mules, domesticated deer and all creatures of the ratite family that are not indigenous to this state, including but not limited to ostriches, emus and rheas, and any other animal as deemed necessary by the commissioner established through rules and regulations.”
