Advanced Professional Series (APS)

Federal Emergency Management Agency

The Advanced Professional Series (APS) is a group of "hands-on" courses that form a package like the Professional Development Series. The courses emphasize performance skills for operations and decision-making in disasters.

Students who complete the APS will be eligible to receive a certificate of completion.

Original Required Courses as Optional Credit

The required courses of the original lineup will remain as optional credit for persons in mid-stream taking the original series. Students who have taken any or all of the original required courses will therefore not forfeit anything and can use those courses as credit for required courses. Training officers can continue to use any of the original required courses listed below to suit their needs.

The courses are: Donations Management (G288), ICS/EOC Operations Center Interface (G191), Rapid Assessment Workshop (G250.7) with Asking for Help module (G270.1), Disaster Response and Recovery Operations (G385), and Mitigation for Emergency Managers (G393). It should be noted, however, that some information in G385 and in G393 place those courses out of date, and FEMA recommends against using them.

Notes on Changes to Electives

Multi-Hazard Emergency Planning for Schools is the new title for G362 as an elective. G197 replaces G250.3. The following are added as elective courses: G110, G408, G108, G358, G290, G271, G272, and G196.

Requests for the certificate of completion must be sent to the Kansas Division of Emergency Management Training Office for verification. Include date and place, as well as the name of the course manager for each course completed.
