Federal Emergency Management Agency
This series of courses, developed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and piloted at the Emergency Management Institute (EMI), has served as a benchmark for emergency management professionals for the past 12 years. As the name of the series implies, the courses are designed to enhance one's professional skills and understanding in the areas of recruiting, leadership, communication, planning, exercising, and overall concepts within emergency management. Those who complete all of the following seven PDS courses are eligible to receive a PDS certificate of completion from EMI in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

- IS242 Effective Communication
- IS241 Decision Making and Problem Solving
- IS240 Leadership and Influence
- IS244 Developing and Managing Volunteers
- IS139 Exercise Design
Courses in bold text are available in KANSAS in FY07. Refer to the Training Schedule.
FEMA recommends that Independent Study Courses Emergency Program Manager (IS-1), and Emergency Preparedness, USA (IS-2) be completed prior to enrollment in the above courses.
