The Shyster Mountain Gang

The Shyster Mountain Gang has been performing in Topeka and N.E. Kansas for over fifteen years. Their engagements include the Apple Festival, Cider Days, Elmont Opry, bluegrass festivals, the State Historical Museum, local coffeehouses, fairs, conventions and so on. The group originally consisted of four attorneys, and they were known as the Shyster Mountain "Boys." But beginning in 1997 things began to change. Today, six musicians carry on the Shyster Mountain tradition. They are:

• Seth Valerius - As attorney in Topeka, originally from Liberal. Seth plays lead guitar, mandolin and sings tenor.
• Judy Coder - Grew up in Wichita, came to Topeka to attend college, and stayed. She teaches music in Topeka and in 1999 she won the National Patsy Montana Yodeling Contest. Judy plays guitar, mandolin and sings the high notes. She also does some yodeling with the group.
• J.B. King - Born in West Virginia and spent part of his childhood in Kentucky, giving him a rich country/bluegrass music background. J.B. plays bass and performs special numbers. He is an attorney in Topeka.
• Glenn Osborn - Has a long history as a musician in Topeka and N.E. Kansas. For years he performed as a member of the "Pleasant Valley Gang" on radio and T.V. He also is a featured performer of the Elmont Opry. Glenn plays dobro with the Shysters.
• Roy Tanner - Joined the group in early 1998. Roy is originally from Wichita, and is now in his third year of teaching strings at Topeka High, as well as at several elementary schools. He plays violin for the Topeka Symphony and also serves as a vocal music director. Roy plays fiddle for the Shysters.
• Larry Dimmitt - One of the "charter members" of the group, and an attorney, Larry plays 5-string banjo and sings. He also performs at his church and at the Elmont Opry.
