Licensee and Company Changes
All changes must be reported to the Commission within 10 days of the change.
Complete the Licensee Name Change Form (REL-100) to report a change in your name.
If the first letter of the new last name is in a different renewal group (see Staggered Renewal Schedule), the license renewal date and expiration date will change.
If the new last name extends the expiration date beyond the current expiration date, a prorated fee will be due. See form instructions.
If the new last name makes the expiration date sooner than the current expiration date, a prorated refund will be issued to the licensee.
If the last name is hyphenated, the license expiration date is determined by the name before the hyphen.
Complete the Licensee Contact Info Change Form (REL-120) to update your address, phone number, email address, or other contact information. Licensees are required to notify KREC in writing within 10 days of an address change per K.A.R. 86-3-15(a)(6).
Nonresidents: If you live outside of Kansas or are moving out of Kansas, you must also complete the Nonresident Form (REL-110) with the Contact Info Change Form.
This form cannot be used to change your name or your company address or contact information.
Complete the Licensee Transfer Form (REL-300) to transfer your license from one company to another, from one branch to another, from a main office to a branch office, or from a branch office to a main office. You may not perform real estate activities requiring a license in Kansas for the new company until your transfer is effective with the new company per KREC records. To verify whether the transfer is effective per KREC, click on the "License Search" button at the top of the page and review the company name that displayed for the licensee.
Complete the Licensee Reactivation Form (REL-320)to change a license from inactive to active status.
Continuing education hours for the immediate past renewal must be on record.
If the license has been on inactive status for two or more years, continuing education totaling six hours for each full year the license has been on inactive must be completed prior to activation.
If the license has been on inactive status for five or more years, the licensure examination must be passed in addition to the additional education requirements.
Complete the Licensee Deactivation Form (REL-310) to place your license on inactive status. A licensee cannot perform activities requiring a Kansas real estate license while on inactive status.
There is no fee to place a license on inactive status, but a $15.00 fee is required when the license is reactivated.
An inactive licensee must submit the renewal application and the standard license renewal fee when due.
It is the licensee's responsibility to keep track of the inactive date and to be aware of the consequences if the license is left on inactive status for two years or more (see requirements to reactivate).
Complete the Licensee Add Affiliation Form (REL-330) to affiliate your license with an additional company or branch office. Salespersons are prohibited from affiliating with more than one Supervising/Branch Broker unless the Supervising/Branch Broker is the same.
Complete the Licensee Remove Affiliation Form (REL-340) to discontinue affiliation with a particular company or branch office. Licensees on active status must continue affiliation with at least one company or branch office and be under the supervision of a broker.
The family of the deceased or the real estate company may keep the license and pocket card as a memento, or they may be returned to the Commission. The license should not continue to be displayed with other licenses at the company.
A photocopy of the obituary, funeral bulletin, or death certificate should be sent to the Commission within 10 days. Documentation may be faxed to (785) 296-1771 or e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If the deceased was a supervising or branch broker, a decision needs to be made as to whether the company will close. If the company is to remain open, a decision needs to be made as to which broker will take over the role of supervising or branch broker. (see Change of Supervising or Branch broker)
Contact the Commission at (785) 296-7891 or Wendy.Alkire@krec.ks.gov for guidance on handling pending transactions or trust funds.
