Licensee and Company Changes |

Who to ContactReceptionist - Jandie Edington (785) 296-3411 The following are required to transfer a license from one company to another, from one branch to another branch, from a main office to a branch office, or from a branch office to a main office.
Transfer requests are processed in the order in which they are received. Please allow 3 business days for processing. The licensee may not work at the new company until the Commission has processed the transfer request. Click here to verify that the new company affiliation is on record. If so, you may begin working for the new company. If not, you're not allowed to conduct license activities at the new company until the transfer is processed. Please check back again tomorrow. ReactivateThe following are required to change a license from inactive to active status.
Continuing education hours for the immediate past renewal must be on record. If the license has been on inactive status for two or more years, continuing education totaling six hours for each full year the license has been on inactive must be completed prior to activation. If the license has been on inactive status for five or more years, the licensure examination must be passed in addition to the additional education requirements. Go inactiveThe following are required to change a license from active to inactive status.
There is no fee to place a license on inactive status. A $15.00 fee is required at the point the license is reactivated. An inactive licensee must pay the standard license renewal fee when due. It is the licensee's responsibility to keep track of the inactive date and to be aware of the consequences if the license is left on inactive status for two years or more (see requirements to reactivate). Home address changeThe following is required to report a change of home address:
Section One of the form may also be used to report a new phone number or E-mail address. A change of address must be reported to the Commission within 10 days of the change. The change may not be reported by telephone. If the licensee is moving from Kansas to another jurisdiction, submit a Nonresident form with the Licensee Change Form. There is no fee to change a home address. If the real estate office is located at the home address, go to Company address change for the requirements to change a company address. Change of last nameThe following are required to report a change in the licensee's last name:
A name change must be reported to the Commission within 10 days of the change. If the first letter of the new last name is in a different renewal group (see Staggered Renewal Schedule), the license renewal date and expiration date will change. If the new last name extends the expiration date beyond the current expiration date, a prorated fee will be due. The Commission will contact the licensee for the prorated fee after receipt of the name change request. If the new last name makes the expiration date sooner than the current expiration date, a prorated refund will be issued to the licensee. If the new last name is in the same renewal group as before, the name change does not affect the expiration date, however, a $10.00 fee is required to reprint the license with the new name. If the last name is hyphenated, the license expiration date is determined by the name before the hyphen. When a licensee diesThe family of the deceased or the real estate company may keep the license and pocket card as a memento, or they may be returned to the Commission. The license should not continue to be displayed with other licenses at the company. A photocopy of the obituary, funeral bulletin, or death certificate should be sent to the Commission within 10 days. Documentation may be faxed to (785) 296-1771 or e-mailed to reception@krec.ks.gov. If the deceased was a supervising or branch broker, a decision needs to be made as to whether the company will close. If the company is to remain open, a decision needs to be made as to which broker will take over the role of supervising or branch broker. The only instance in which a refund of fees is available, is when fees have been paid in advance and the effective date of the renewal period was after the date of death. Company address changeThe following are required to change the address of a real estate company.
A company address change must be reported to the Commission within 10 days of the change. If the company is located in the supervising or branch broker's home and the home address is also changing, report the home address change on a Licensee Change Formand submit both the home and company address changes together. Company name changeThe following are required to change the name of a real estate company.
A company name change must be reported to the Commission within 10 days of the change. Your request may be denied if a real estate company with the same or a similar name already exists in your area. Change of Supervising or Branch brokerThe following are required to change the supervising or branch broker of a real estate company.

Opening a companyIf transferring from an existing company and opening a new company, follow the steps under Transfer and indicate the new company name and address in Section Two of the Licensee Change Form. A company number will be assigned when the request is processed. Include the $15.00 transfer fee plus the $25.00 open office fee. (The fees may be combined into one check for $40.00.) If reactivating from inactive status and opening a new company, follow the steps under Reactivate and indicate the new company name and address in Section Four of the Licensee Change Form. If obtaining a new broker's license and opening a new company, indicate the new company name and address on the application for license. If the new company is to be a branch of an existing office, include a letter signed by the supervising broker of the main office giving authorization to open the branch. The supervising or branch broker of the new company must complete a Trust Account Form to provide trust account information or to request permission to not maintain an account. Your request may be denied if a real estate company with the same or a similar name already exists in your area. Trust account changesThe Trust Account Form may be used to report changes to an existing account, the financial institution where the account is held, or to open an additional account. The form may also be used to request permission to not maintain an account when contracts designate an escrow agent other than the broker. Approval to maintain an account in an adjoining state may also be requested using this form. Submit a Report
on Closing Trust Account form whenever a trust account is closed. |
