FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 16, 2005 No. 05-058 KANSAS ARMY GUARD BATTERY RECEIVES ALERT/MOBILIZATION
FOR IRAQ Approximately 150 soldiers of the Kansas Army National Guards
Headquarters and Headquarters Battery (-) (HHB), 1st Battalion, 127th
Field Artillery, based in Ottawa, have been alerted for mobilization later
this month for Operation Iraqi Freedom. This battery normally provides a variety of support for
the other batteries in a field artillery battalion. In Iraq, these soldiers
will be providing force protection. The unit currently doing this job
in Baghdad is Battery C, 1st Battalion, 151st Field Artillery of the Minnesota
Army National Guard. "I am very proud of these Kansas soldiers getting ready
to deploy to Operation Iraqi Freedom. Many will be leaving their families
for the second time to support our nation during the Global War on Terrorism,"
said Maj. Noel Grubb, "This is truly Kansas citizen-soldiers at their
very best." Our Kansas Army National Guard soldiers are always
ready to answer their countrys call in the name of freedom,
said Maj. Gen. (KS) Tod Bunting, the adjutant general. I have no
doubt these soldiers will respond with pride, dedication and enthusiasm
for the mission they have been given. Grubb of Ellinwood, Kan., is the commander of HHB Forward. This will be his second deployment. He served in Bosnia-Herzegovina with the 35th Infantry Division from November 2002 to January 2004. He has also served briefly in Japan, South Korea and Germany. He has been in the Guard since 1990.
