KANSAS NATIONAL GUARD MOBILE MUSEUM TO BE UNVEILED
The Kansas National Guard is taking their 150th birthday celebration on the
road.
The Mobile Museum of the Kansas National Guard, a joint effort of the 150th
Anniversary of the Kansas National Guard Committee and the Kansas National Guard
Museum, will be officially unveiled on Friday, July 15 at 2:30 p.m. in front
of the State Defense Building, 2800 S. Topeka Blvd. The unveiling will reveal
a new paint scheme featuring the official logo of the Kansas National Guards
150th Anniversary celebration. Also on display will a Civil War era cannon and
limber.
The mobile display, developed to mark the 150th anniversary of the Kansas National
Guard, showcases the progressive involvement of the Guard in the states
history, from the early settlement of the Plains through the Civil War, Indian
Wars and other military campaigns up to present Kansas National Guard activities
in the Global War on Terrorism. The Mobile Museum contains photos, documents,
uniforms, vintage headgear, a Light Anti-Tank Weapon, Tactical Operations Weapon
and other pieces of Kansas National Guard history selected from the Kansas National
Guard Museum in Topeka.
The Mobile Museum has already visited several communities in Kansas and will
begin a 150th Anniversary Kansas Guard Whistle Stop Caravan tour
on July 17, visiting every community in the state that has a Kansas Army National
Guard or Kansas Air National Guard facility.
