190TH AIR REFUELING WING TO DEDICATE NOSE ART DISPLAY ON JULY 22 IN COMMEMORATION
OF THE KANSAS NATIONAL GUARDS 150TH ANNIVERSARY
FORBES FIELD, Kan. At 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 22, the 190th Air Refueling
Wing (ARW) will dedicate the nose-art on Aircraft 57-2595 in commemoration of
the 150th Anniversary of the Kansas National Guard. The Kansas National Guards
150th Anniversary logo which was designed and unveiled in October 2004 will
serve as the aircrafts nose art.
The 150th logo will fly on Aircraft 57-2595, built in 1957 by the Boeing Aircraft
Company in Seattle, Wash. The aircraft is a KC-135 E-Model which has flown approximately
18,050 hours over its 48 years of service. The 190th acquired the aircraft from
the Pennsylvania Air National Guard in September 2004.
The aircraft is maintained by Sgt. Randy Lang and Tech. Sgt. Summer Walters,
crew chiefs with the 190th ARW. The 150th Nose Art was designed by Greg Schieszer,
a teacher at Shawnee Mission West. The nose-art was manufactured at the 190th
ARW by Tech. Sgt. Gordon Cole using the Aerospace Ground Equipment's (AGE) stencil
machine. Upon completion, the nose-art was installed on the aircraft by the
190th Corrosion and Sheet Metal shop.
"The 190th is proud to be a part of the 150th Anniversary celebration
of the Kansas National Guard. This logo serves as a reminder of the long and
rich history of the Kansas National Guard, said Col. Gregg Burden, 190th
ARW Wing Commander.
The Kansas National Guard began as the Kansas Territorial Militia on Aug. 30,
1855, with Hiram J. Strickler appointed as its first adjutant general the next
day. Since that time, Kansas Guardsmen have served in every major conflict our
nation has faced, from the Civil War through the war in Iraq.
