PAINTING COMMEMORATES KANSAS NATIONAL GUARD AT BATTLE OF MISSIONARY RIDGE

A commissioned work by noted military history artist Dale Gallon will commemorate the involvement of the Kansas National Guard in the Battle of Missionary Ridge, a key battle in the larger Battle of Chattanooga during the Civil War.

The painting, commissioned by the 150th Anniversary of the Kansas National Guard Committee, depicts the 8th Kansas Infantry’s battle at Missionary Ridge, Tenn., which took place on Nov. 25, 1863. This painting was commissioned as part of the commemoration celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Kansas National Guard. This is the only known Civil War print depicting a Kansas unit as the center piece.

Gallon's paintings are currently displayed at such prestigious locations as the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Penn., the Pentagon, the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and numerous private collections.

Prints of the painting will be available for purchase by the general public. Each of the first 350 prints will have the 150th Anniversary logo imprinted and will be hand signed and numbered. Each print will sell for $110 dollars. After the first 350 prints are sold, the remaining 300 prints will not have the 150th logo. An order form for the print is available online at www.accesskansas.org/ksadjutantgeneral/150th Guard Anniversary/Civil War Print Order Form.htm. Framing is available separately through Gallon Historical Art.

The framed print and ordering information for framing may be viewed at www.gallon.com/KansasNG. Information on the print is also available on the Kansas National Guard’s 150th Anniversary Web site (www.accesskansas.org/ksadjutantgeneral/150th Guard Anniversary/images/Gallon Civil War print.htm).

Gallon is now working on the painting which will be unveiled at the 150th Ball on Aug. 27, 2005, in Topeka. Orders for prints will be accepted through on-line ordering or can be purchased at the ball on Aug. 27.
