FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 20, 2008 No. 08-060 VIDEO GAMERS TO TEST THEIR SOLDIER SKILLS, LEARN WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A REAL SOLDIER More than 50 teams of video game players will converge on Fort Leavenworth and the 35th Infantry Division on June 21 beginning at 9:30 a.m. to test their skills as video game soldiers in Halo 3. Teams have been recruited from all over the region, including Lawrence, Paola, Easton, Weston, Kansas City, Leavenworth and Lansing, to compete against each other on the Xbox game system. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet with Kansas National Guard Soldiers from the 35th Infantry Division and to take part in "Guard for a Day," a program designed to demonstrate a "day in the life" of a National Guard Soldier. Static displays, including a Blackhawk helicopter and military vehicles, will also be on site. More than 200 participants are expected to attend the event that will be held at the 35th Infantry Division Headquarters on Fort Leavenworth, #2 Sherman Avenue, Leavenworth, Kan. The 35th ID Headquarters is located east of the main Fort Leavenworth gate. Photo and interview opportunities will be available. -30- |
