FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Aug. 8, 2008 No. 08-082 FUNERAL SERVICES SET FOR KANSAS GUARDSMAN Funeral services for Spc. Ronald A. Schmidt will be Wednesday, Aug. 13
at Grace Community Church, 1600 S. Anderson Road, Newton, Kan. There will
be a visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. and the service will begin at 10 a.m.
and will be followed by graveside services in Eureka, Kan. The funeral
procession to Eureka will begin at noon. There will also be a visitation on Tuesday, Aug. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m.
at the Downing and Lahey Mortuary, 10515 West Maple in Wichita. Schmidt enlisted in the Kansas Army National Guards Detachment
1, Battery C, 1st Battalion, 161st Field Artillery, Newton, on Jan. 27,
2007 during his senior year at Newton High School. Upon graduation from
Newton High in May 2007 he attended training as a cannon crewman. He transferred
to Battery C, 1st Battalion, 161st Field Artillery, Kingman, to deploy
with the unit to Iraq. He was promoted to private first class on Nov.
28, 2007, and then to specialist. Schmidt is survived by his mother, Andrea Maria Schmidt, of Newton, and
his uncle Paul Schmidt, of Goddard. -30- |
