FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Sept. 18, 2008 No. 08-104 ALL AMERICAN BEEF BATTALION TO HONOR KANSAS NATIONAL GUARDSMEN BEFORE
IRAQ DEPLOYMENT Soldiers and families of the Kansas National Guards 287th Sustainment Brigade will be honored with a steak feed cookout on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 5 p.m. The cookout is being sponsored by the All American Beef Battalion and will be held at the Salina Armory, 2910 Arnold Ave, Salina. Approximately 260 soldiers of the 287th are conducting pre-mobilization training in Salina for a deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The 287th (headquartered in Wichita) along with members from its subordinate units, will leave next week for Fort Lewis, Wash., and then deploy to Iraq. In Iraq their mission will be logistical support for U.S. and Coalition forces in their assigned area operations. A deployment ceremony for the 287 Sustainment Brigade will be held on Friday, Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. at the Masonic Center, 336 S Santa Fe Ave., in Salina. The All American Beef Battalion is a group of individuals within the United States beef cattle industry dedicated to support the troops fighting the Global War on Terror. They work to organize and sponsor steak feeds, entertainment, and programs with service members and their families. It is a real heart-warming thing for us to do, said Bill Broadie of Ashland, KS, founder of the All American Beef Battalion. Its been very well-received.
