FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 29, 2009 No. 09-054 NHRA DRIVERS TO SHOW SUPPORT FOR KANSAS NATIONAL GUARD The O’Reilly Summer Nationals will be held this weekend, May 29-30, at Heartland Park Topeka. Two of the drivers at the event will be showing their support for the Kansas National Guard. Six time International Hot Rod Association World Champion Clay Millican will be displaying Kansas Army National Guard stickers when he takes to the track this weekend. “We truly appreciate the sacrifices our Soldiers make so we can go racing,” said Millican. “Running the decal was something our team wanted to do to show support for our troops.” Millican has seen those troops in action first hand. As part of a contingent of racers, he visited servicemen in Iraq last year during a Morale, Welfare and Recreation tour. “Visiting the troops last year was a life changing experience,” Millican said. “It was an awesome experience and made me realize what they really do for us. Our guys are doing a great job over there and this is just a small thing that we can do to show our support for them.” As the NHRA Full Throttle tour closes out the first third of its season, Brogdon looks to this weekend’s event to continue the momentum the team has been building over the last few races. He believes that having the National Guard on board will add even more incentive to everyone on the team to win one for those that serve and protect our country. “We’ve been running well the past few events,” said Brogdon, “and we know after the race in Bristol that we are headed the right direction. Tommy Utt, Dr. Phil and Jerry Eckman have been working non-stop to get us to this point. Having the National Guard join us for this weekend’s race just makes our efforts that much more special. With this race coming on the heels of Memorial Day, when we all recognize the sacrifices that the armed forces make for all of us, supporting the National Guard in this manner is the least our team can do.” Rodger added, “The Guard’s motto is ‘Always Ready, Always There’ and for all the members of the National Guard doing battle for us this weekend in Iraq and Afghanistan, we’re going to try and match their efforts on our battle ground, the quarter mile at Topeka. Just as it takes teamwork on the battle field, it takes teamwork on the track, and I firmly believe that our team has just as much fire power as any other team out here. It’s just a matter of making sure that we correctly target our objective and take the trophy on Sunday for all the members of the Guard.” You can follow all of the racing results for this weekend’s event and every NHRA National event on-line at www.dragracecentral.com, and with television coverage both Saturday and Sunday on ESPN2.
