FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 4, 2009 No. 09-056 FIELD ARTILLERY TO BE FIRST KANSAS ARMY NATIONAL GUARD UNIT TO RECEIVE RESILIENCY TRAININGMembers of the 2nd Battalion, 130th Field Artillery will be the first Kansas Army National Guard soldiers to participate in the Kansas Adjutant General’s Department Resiliency Center training this Friday, June 5. The 2-130th FA will deploy as part of a Multinational Force and Observers mission in Egypt. The mission of the MFO is to supervise the implementation of the security provisions of the Egyptian-Israeli Treaty of Peace and employ their best efforts to prevent any violation of its terms. Before their deployment, members of the 2-130th FA will participate in the Resiliency Center training, equipping soldiers with tools and skills to battle deployment stress and other concerns that may arise while overseas. The Resiliency Center training not only serves to enhance service members’ abilities to handle deployment stress, but prepares individuals to handle traumatic events well before they happen, as well as during the situation. Resiliency Center staff work to equip Guard members and their families, as well as emergency responders to better handle life’s challenges. The 2nd Battalion, 130th Field Artillery, which holds the lineage and honors of the 130th Field Artillery Regiment, traces its heritage to the 1st Kansas Artillery formed in 1868. Units or soldiers of the regiment have served in every conflict since the Civil War. The battalion was last activated for duty in December 2003 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, where the battalion was given various force protection missions in and around the Baghdad Area of Operations. The regiment has been awarded streamers for numerous campaigns, including Muese-Argonne, Alsace, Lorraine, the Aleutian Islands and the European Theatre. The battalion has armories in Abilene, Atchison, Burlington, Clay Center, Concordia, Hiawatha, Holton, Horton, Marysville, Ottawa, Sabetha, Salina and Troy.
