FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 25, 2009 No. 09-066 MOTORCYCLE RACERS TO SIGN AUTOGRAPHS AND HAND OUT DRAG RACE TICKETSThe National Guard Bureau is sponsoring the American Drag Racing League races at Heartland Park Topeka on July 3 and 4. On Sunday, June 28, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Steve Smithers, a professional motorcycle racer and owner of Smithers Customs, will hand out free tickets to Fort Riley soldiers and their families at the Post Exchange, 3712 Trooper Drive, Camp Forsyth, Fort Riley, Kan. Additionally, Smithers will be signing autographs on Thursday, July 2, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kansas National Guard Recruiting Office, 1710 SW Topeka Blvd, Topeka, Kan. Smithers will represent the Kansas National Guard at the July 3 and 4 National Guard American Drag Racing League races at Heartland Park Topeka. “It is an opportunity for our race team to show how much we appreciate what the Guard does for us by representing them at the races,” said Smithers. Smithers is a 15-year racing veteran, including being a previous International Drag Bike Association super comp national champion, a top five IDBA number plate holder for five years and a six-year top 10 American Motorcyclist Association number plate holder. Smithers will showcase his pro-extreme/pro-modified 2002 Kawasaki ZX12r drag bike and his custom Hayabusa. Fellow racers, Kansas Army National Guard soldier Staff Sgt. James Hubbard and Brian Pearson will also be in attendance for autographs with their race bikes. Hubbard and Pearson are both sponsored by the Kansas National Guard.
