MEDIA ADVISORY:
PREPAREDNESS DAY NEWS CONFERENCE TUESDAY, SEPT. 8 AT THE STATE CAPITOL
A news conference to highlight Kansas Emergency Preparedness Day will be held Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 11 a.m. in the Governor’s Ceremonial Office at the State Capitol.
Gov. Mark Parkinson signed a proclamation Sept. 3 declaring September as “Kansas Preparedness Month” to encourage Kansans to focus on how best to prepare for a disaster.
Speakers for the news conference will be: Parkinson; Maj. Gen. Tod Bunting, Kansas adjutant general and director of Kansas Division of Emergency Management; Dr. Jason Eberhart-Phillips, State Health Officer and Director of Health for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment; and Dave Sterbenz, Shawnee County Emergency Manager.
They will address the importance of emergency preparedness in the home, community and the workplace given the ongoing threats of natural and manmade disasters in our state and nation today, and their agency’s role in keeping Kansans safe before, during and after a disaster.
A special focus for this event will be discussing how Kansans can best protect themselves from contracting the H1N1 virus, and what to expect as flu season starts.
A brief question and answer session will follow.
