Become a KSBDC client

If you are starting a business, please complete the following:

1. Read the Statement of Understanding. Please print and bring a signed copy to your first meeting with your KSBDC consultant.
2. Complete the Start-Up Business Assessment or download the following PDF form.
3. Complete the Summary of Money Needs Form.
4.If you downloaded the PDF forms, you will need to fax them to a KSBDC center or to the KSBDC state office. If you submitted the forms in our online assessment, your information will be forwarded to a KSBDC center near you. If you do not hear from them within 3 working days, please call a center near you or the state office.

If you are already in business, please complete the following:

1. Read the Statement of Understanding Page. Please print and bring a signed copy to your first meeting with your KSBDC consultant.
2. Complete the Existing Business Assessment or download the following PDF form.
3. If you downloaded the PDF forms, you will need to fax them to a KSBDC center or to the KSBDC state office. If you submitted the forms in our online assessment, your information will be forwarded to a KSBDC center near you. If you do not hear from them within 3 working days, please call a center near you or the state office.

If you are purchasing an existing business, please:

1. Follow the steps of the start-up business above.
2. Please collect 3 years financials & tax returns of the business you are purchasing to discuss with your KSBDC consultant.
3. Please collect the information on the asking price of the business you are purchasing to discuss this with your KSBDC consultant.
4. Please get a listing of the assets included with the business purchase and their fair market value.
5. Take a look at the the Checklist for Buying a Business and the Buying a Business Resources section on this website in advance of meeting with a KSBDC consultant.

  • Did you know? In 2007, KSBDC clients receiving long-term counseling experienced sales growth of nearly 40%. Kansas small business owners not receiving KSBDC counseling services, experienced sales growth of 5%.

  • In 2008, KSBDC counseling generated approximately $12.70 in state tax revenues for every $1 the Kansas Department of Commerce spent on the KSBDC program.

  • For every federal dollar that is spent on the KSBDC program, at least one non-federal dollar must be raised by the recipient KSBDC.

  • Overall, long-term counseling generated approximately $18.68 in federal tax revenues and $4.29 in state tax revenues for every $1 spent on the KSBDC program by all partners in the year 2008.

  • In 2008, the KSBDC Network provided 12,633 hours of free one-to-one counseling to 2,111 clients and conducted 682 workshops for 5,243 participants.
