the 2011 Legislative Session but still eligible to be worked in 2012:
House
Bill 2121 An act relating to the authority of coroners to
issue permits; amending KSA
65-2426a. Introduced by the
House Committee on Government Efficiency. Amended and passed out
of the House
Committee on Judiciary on Monday, February 6, 2012. Passed the
House, 122-2 on 2/16/2012. Referred to the Senate Committee on
Judiciary where a hearing was held on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at
9:30 a.m. in Room 548-S at the State Capitol. Was not worked this
session.
Substitute
for House Bill 2178 Granting professional licenses to
nonresident military spouses. Passed the House 123-1 on
3/30/2011. Passed the Senate 39-0 on 2/2/2012. Becomes law
upon publication in the Statute Book (July 1, 2012.)

Bill 2242 An act concerning Vital Statistics; relating
to death and stillbirth certificates. A substitute bill was sent
to the House
Committee on Federal and State Affairs. Was not worked this session.

introduced during the 2012 Legislative Session:
Senate
Bill 303
An act concerning disposition of unclaimed
cremated remains; relating to veterans cremated remains; amending
KSA
65-1732 and repealing the existing section; also repealing KSA
65-1733. The bill passed the Senate, 39-0, and was
referred to
the House Committee on Health and Human Services where a hearing was
held on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 @ 1:30 p.m. in Room 784 of the Docking
State Office Building. On Wednesday, March 7, 2012, the House
Committee recommended the bill be passed as amended.
The bill passed the House 124-0 on 3-16-2012. The Senate
nonconcurred with the amendments and appointed a Conference Committee
of Senators V. Schmidt, Brungardt and Kelly. The House adopted a
motion to accede and appointed a Conference Committee of
Representatives Landwehr, Donohoe and Flaharty. The Conference
Committee moved the bill out of committee, and the Senate concurred
with amendments in conference, 40-0. Governor Brownback approved
the bill on Friday, April 6, 2012. Becomes law upon publication
in the Statute Book (July 1, 2012).
House
Bill 2697 An act concerning eligibility requirements for
Medicaid; allowing collateral assignment of the proceeds of life
insurance policies. Introduced on 2/9/2012. Referred to the
House Committee on Aging and Long-Term Care where a hearing was held on
Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. in Room 144-S at
the State Capitol. 2/22/2012: The Committee Report
recommended
that the bill be passed as amended. The bill passed the House,
118-0, on Friday, March 9, 2012 and was referred to the Senate
Committee on Ways and Means before being referred to the Committee on
Financial Institutions and Insurance. The committee recommended
the bill be passed, and the Senate voted to pass the bill 40-0 on
3-20-2012. The House enrolled and presented the bill to the
Governor and was approved on April 6, 2012. Becomes law upon publication
in the Statute Book (July 1, 2012).
House
Bill 2742 Concerning real and personal property relating to
the Medical Assistance Recovery Program; amending KSA
39-702, 58-3957,
58a-818,
59-1501,
59-2239,
59-2250
and KSA 2011 Supp. 39-709, 59-1507b, 59-222 and 59-2247 and repealing
the existing section. (Please note that KSA 2011 Supp information
can be found in Vol.
1 and Vol.
2 of the 2011 Session Laws of Kansas) The bill was introduced on
2/10/2012 and referred to the House Committee on Judiciary on
2/13/2012. On 2/15/2012 the bill was withdrawn from the House
Committee on Judiciary and referred to the House Committee on
Appropriations. 2/23/2012: The bill was withdrawn from the
House Committee on Appropriations and re-referred to the House
Committee on
Judiciary. Was not worked this session.
Bills
passed during the 2011 Legislative Session:
Senate
Bill 229 Allows the KSBMA to keep 90% of fee funds
instead of 80%. Passed the Senate, 39-0 and the House,
121-0. Approved by Governor Brownback on April 13, 2011.
The bill became law as of publication in the statute book: July 1, 2011.
House
Bill 2060 An act
concerning disposal of decedents' remains; amending KSA 65-1734
and repealing the existing section. By Representative
Sloan. Passed the House, 119-1, and passed the Senate,
39-0. The bill was approved by the Governor on
April 27, 2011 and became law upon publication in the statute
book: July 1, 2011.
House
Bill 2083 Introduced by the
KSBMA. An act relating to mortuary arts; concerning the
notification of individuals with prefinanced funeral agreements;
amending KSA 65-1713a and repealing the existing section. Passed
the House, 117-1 and passed the Senate, 38-0. Governor Brownback
approved the bill on 3/28/2011. The bill became law upon
publication in the statute book: July 1, 2011.
House
Bill 2240 An act concerning cemetery corporations;
relating to cemetery merchandise trust contracts and permanent
maintenance funds. Passed the House as amended, 114-5; was
amended again, then passed the Senate, 39-0. The bill went to
a Conference Committee composed of Senators Reitz, Kelsey
and Faust-Goudeau and Representatives Huebert, Mah and Seiwert.
On May 2, 2011, the House concurred with the amendments of the
conference committee, 109-10. The bill was approved by Governor
Brownback on May 12, 2011 and became law on January 1, 2012 and
publication in the statute book.
