George Barbee, Public Member

George BarbeeMr. Barbee was appointed to the Board on July 1, 2004. He spent a 31-year career in association management and lobbying while serving a prominent client, the American Council of Engineering, as the Executive Director. Barbee retired from the newly merged firm of Gaches, Braden and Barbee Inc. in May of 2003.

Mr. Barbee's Board term expires on June 30, 2012.

 

David L. Hoffman, Architect. Architect Member

David HoffmanDavid L. Hoffman, FAIA was appointed to the board effective August 3, 2005. Mr. Hoffman is Senior Vice President of Law Kingdon Architecture, a Wichita firm of 106 professionals with expertise in Architecture, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Interior Architecture and Planning. Mr. Hoffman is registered in 26 states and the District of Columbia.  He has served as President of AIA Kansas and as AIA Regional Director representing Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri and Oklahoma on the American Institute of Architect's Board of Directors.  Mr. Hoffman was elected to Fellowship in the AIA in 1993 and is a Richard Upjohn Fellow of the Institute.  He holds an NCARB Certification, writes exam questions for the Architect’s Registration Exam and is Chair of the Site Planning Design ARE sub-committee. Dave is serving on the KU Department of Architecture Advisory Board and has served on the KSU and ISU Departments of Architecture Advisory Boards.

Mr. Hoffman is the 2010-2011 past Board Chairperson. His Board term expires on June 30, 2013.

 

Tim Sloan L. S., Land Surveyor Member

Tim SloanTim Sloan was appointed to the Board in September 2004. He is Vice President of Sloan & Meier Surveyors P.A., Inc. in Manhattan, Kansas. His firm offers services in the following areas of surveying: cadastral surveys, construction staking, mine surveys, subdivision design and layout, topographic surveys, easements, right-of-way surveys and engineer design surveys. Mr. Sloan has served as past Vice President, Board Director, and NSPS Governor of the Kansas Society of Land Surveyors. His professional memberships include: A.C.S.M., N.S.P.S., K.S.L.S. and O.S.L.S. He is licensed to practice land surveying in Kansas and Oklahoma.

Mr. Sloan is the 2011-2012 Board Vice-Chairperson. His Board term expires on June 30, 2012.

 

Philip J. Meyer L.A., Landscape Architect Member

Philip MeyerPhilip J. Meyer was appointed to the Board in September 2003. Mr. Meyer is Vice-President and Secretary of Baughman Company, P.A., a multi-disciplinary firm in Wichita specializing in engineering, surveying, landscape architecture and planning. He is responsible for managing the landscape architecture and planning division of the firm, which works on both public and private projects. He is certified by CLARB and has served an active role for CLARB while on the State Board. He is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects. He is licensed to practice landscape architecture in both Kansas and Missouri.

Mr. Meyer is the 2011-2012 Board Chairperson.

 

Dr. Richard B. Hayter, P.E., Professional Engineer Member

Richard HayterDr. Richard B. Hayter, P.E., was appointed to the Board on August 8, 2011. He retired in 2009 as the Associate Dean of Engineering for External Affairs Emeritus at Kansas State University. A South Dakota State University mechanical engineering graduate, he received his M.S. and Ph.D. from Kansas State University. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was executive vice president of an engineering consulting firm which specialized in energy management in commercial and industrial buildings. He has been mayor of Manhattan, KS, and has served as Director of the Kansas Energy Office. A licensed professional engineer, he was the 1995/96 International President of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

His Board term expires on June 30, 2015.

 

Robert W. Henthorne, Geologist. Geologist Member

Robert HenthorneRobert W. Henthorne was appointed to the board on August 8, 2011. He is the Chief Geologist for the Kansas Department of Transportation. Mr. Henthorne is currently serving as an At-large Member of the Association of State Boards of Geology, Executive Director of the Shallow Exploration Drillers Clinic, member of the Transportation Research Board Committee on Aggregates, member of the Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists, Kansas State University CIT Instructor and a member of the KSU Geology Advisory Council. He is the past chairman of Transportation Research Board Committee on Exploration and Classification of Earth Materials and of the Highway Geology Symposium. Mr. Henthorne is also active with various other geologic programs in conjunction with KU, KSU, FHSU and the Kansas Geologic Survey.

His Board term expires on June 30, 2012.

 

Vincent Mancini, Architect. Architect member

Vincent ManciniVincent was appointed to the Board in June of 2006. He is an Architect with Gibson, Mancini, Carmichael, and Nelson, P.A., Garden City, KS. He is licensed to practice Architecture in Kansas, California, Colorado and Oklahoma. Vince has served on the AIA Kansas Board of Directors, including a term as President in 1997. He is also a recipient of the AIA Kansas Henry W. Schirmer Distinguished Service Award. 

Mr. Mancini is the 2011-2012 ARCH/GEO/LA Committee Chairperson. His Board term expires on June 30, 2014.

 

Wendy Ornelas, Architect. Architect Member

Wendy OrnelasProfessor Wendy Ornelas, FAIA is an Associate Dean at Kansas State University.  She earned her bachelor’s degree from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and her master’s degree from Oklahoma State University.  Professor Ornelas has taught studio, marketing, and management courses in the College of Architecture, Planning & Design (CAP+D).  In addition to her Associate Dean activities with the College Ms. Ornelas is also the Director of the Department of Architecture’s Internship Program and the CAP+D’s interdisciplinary doctoral program in Environmental Design & Planning.

Ms. Ornelas is the recipient of the ACSA/AIAS New Faculty Teaching Award, past-president of AIA Kansas, recipient of AIA Kansas’ Henry W. Schirmer Distinguished Service Award, the past director for the West Central Region of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA), past member of the IDP Coordinating Committee, as well as a member of the advisory committee for the 2005 Internship Conference: Designing Tomorrow’s Architect.  She serves as a member of the National Architectural Accrediting Board representing the ACSA.  She is a gourmet cook as time allows, a professor, a flyfisher and a principal with Condia + Ornelas Architects.

Her Board term expires on June 30, 2012.

 

Murray L. Rhodes L.S., Public Member

Murray RhodesMurray L. Rhodes was appointed to the Board in November 1991.  He was president of his own company, Rhodes Surveyors, P.A. for 38 years.  Rhodes Surveyors merged with Brungardt Honomichl & Company, P.A. in October 2005, and Mr. Rhodes is the Vice-President of Surveying for that company.   He specializes in cadastral surveys, geodetic positioning, mapping, accident reconstruction, technical measurements, land record/land information research and reports.  He was elected as Wyandotte County Surveyor for 30 years, and served as the Director of Planning for 20 years.  Mr. Rhodes is past president of the Kansas Society of Land Surveyors and past area director of the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping over a ten state region.  He is a Fellow member of ACSM, the Canadian Institute of Surveyors.

Thomas E. Mulinazzi Ph.D., P.E., L.S. Professional Engineer/Land Surveyor Member

Thomas MulinazziDr. Tom Mulinazzi was appointed to the Board in July of 2000.  He is a professor of Civil Engineering and an Associate Dean of Engineering at the University of Kansas.  He is a member of NSPE, ASCE, ASEE and KSPE, who honored him as Engineer of the Year of June 2000.   He has been a Professor of Civil Engineering for 26 years, has proctored the FE exam at KU for the past 13 years and is on the Examination Policies and Procedures Committee of NCEES. He is the professional engineer/land surveying member on the Board.

Forrest Erickson P.E. Professional Engineer Member

Forrest EricksonForrest Erickson, a licensed professional engineer from Shawnee, Kansas, was appointed to the Board in June 2010.  He earned Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in civil engineering from Kansas State University. Mr. Erickson is a retired principal of Kleinfelder, a nationwide consulting engineering firm headquartered in San Diego, California.  Currently, as a vice president of the firm, he continues with business development duties. Over his more than 35 year professional career, Mr. Erickson has been a member of numerous professional organizations, having most recently served on the ACEC Kansas Board of Directors.  He is licensed to practice engineering in the states of Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. 

Mr. Erickson is the 2011-2012 Board Secretary. His Board term expires on June 30, 2014.

 

George Dean P.E., Professional Engineer Member

George DeanGeorge Dean was appointed to the Board July 1, 2004. He retired from Beech Aircraft, Missile System Division where he was project engineer on guidance and controls. He has a BS in EE from University of Kansas and a MS in EE from Wichita State University. Dean served 20 years in the Kansas House of Representatives and as a Board member of Kansas Technology Enterprise Corporation. He has been International Treasurer, Midwest Regional Director, and Chairman of the Wichita Section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He was co-founder for the Wichita Council of Engineering Societies.

Mr. Dean is the 2011-2012 PE/LS Committee Chairperson. His Board term expires on June 30, 2012.

 

Steven S. Brosemer L.S., Land Surveyor Member

Steven BrosemerSteven S. Brosemer, L.S., Emporia, was appointed to the Board as the new land surveyor member in July 2008.  He is a graduate of Wichita State University with majors in history and secondary education.  Mr. Brosemer has been an owner or partner in his current business, Geotech, Inc., for the past twenty-five years and has provided land surveying services of every possible type to both the private and the public sectors.  For many years, Steve worked with his father and mentor, the late James H. Brosemer, L.S.

Mr. Brosemer served as president of the Kansas Society of Land Surveyors (KSLS) in 1988 and 1989.  Currently he is an elected board member of KSLS and serves on the legislative and the historical preservation committees.  Mr. Brosemer is a regular land surveyor continuing education presenter at KSLS functions.  He also serves on the board of directors of the Lyon County Historical Society and the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Brosemer's Board Term expires on June 30, 2012.
