Are all crash included in this system?

Only injury and fatality crashes worked by the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) are posted online. Non-injury crashes and crashes worked by other law enforcement agencies are not included on this system. Crashes on the Kansas Turnpike (KTA) are not included in this system, even if the crash is worked by the KHP. A link is available on the KHP homepage to access crash reports for Turnpike crashes.

How soon following a crash are the logs posted online?

Log information is posted online once a dispatcher has entered the data. A trooper on the scene will radio the information to central dispatch. This can possibly be several hours following the crash.

How long will the log remain online?

The Kansas Highway Patrol Crash Log allows you to retrieve preliminary injury or fatality crash information for 14 days from the event. Crashes may remain on the site for up to 30 days in the case where information has been updated. The official crash report will supersede any information contained in the online crash log.

Why are no names listed on one of the fatality crash logs?

Names and vehicle information of fatalities will be withheld pending the notification of next of kin. Once next of kin has been notified, the log will be updated to include names and vehicle information.

How can I get a copy of the official crash report?

You may request an accident report for an accident which occurred since May 2013, by clicking on the Request an Accident Report button, or by going online to https://www.kansas.gov/accident-reports/. For accidents older than May 2013, or if computer access is not available, you may submit a written request to the Records Section at the address below. Please send a self-addressed, stamped envelope, along with your payment when making a request by mail. You may also make a request in person at the address below. When requesting a copy of an accident report, you will need to know at least the name of the individual involved in the accident, and/or a case number, and/or the date of the accident. A fee will be assessed for reproduction of official accident reports.
