Criminal Justice Services Branch

The Criminal Justice Service Branch is comprised primarily of the Forensic Science Laboratory and the Information Services Division.

The Forensic Science Laboratory provides forensic science services to the Kansas criminal justice community. The Laboratory system consists of four accredited laboratories located in Topeka, Great Bend, Kansas City and Pittsburg.

KBI laboratories provide forensic science examinations and services in the areas of Biology, Chemistry, Digital Evidence, Firearms and Toolmark, Latent Prints, Toxicology, DNA Databank, Bloodstain Pattern Analysis and Trace Evidence.

The Information Services Division is responsible for the collection, maintenance and dissemination of much of the criminal justice information used by courts, law enforcement, prosecutors and corrections. The division maintains Kansas criminal history records for adults and juveniles, manages the state's fingerprint records, and oversees the Kansas Offender Registration database. The division also administers KIBRS, the statewide database for all offense and arrest reports that generates crime statistics.

The Criminal Intelligence Unit and the Missing Persons Clearinghouse are also critical programs under the Criminal Justice Services Branch.
